WWII Japanese Saipan Silk Rising Sun Flag

The flag measures 25 inches by 36 inches and is made from silk.  It is in very delicate condition, as are most silk battle flags from this era.  There are a few separations in the silk.  The flag appears to have been a souvenir for a US GI because it is marked in red ink, “Sipan (sic) 1943, Sam Deluca, 37817864.”

I was able to locate Deluca’s enlistment record in the National Archives.
