This is a super clean WWII Army Medical blanket with a crisp quartermaster tag.  It measures 56 inches x 75 inches and has no condition issues.

This WWII M1 helmet liner made by St Clair is one of two manufactures of the early “low pressure” helmet liner.  The other maker was “Hood Rubber”.  It has its original dark smooth finish and a green finish on the inside, which was only done on the earliest production helmets.

The liner has early square galvanized washers holding a white rayon suspension, a rayon and leather sweatband, and a rayon nape strap.  The name “Berlat” has been painted on the size of the helmet (see pic).  There is a 1/2 inch fiberglass separation by the painted name and one of the snaps on the sweatband has separated.  Otherwise, this is a very clean helmet.

The outer canvas bag is marked, “U.S., Bag, Cutlery, Canvas Outfit, Cooking, 20 Man.”  Inside there is a canvas implement roll marked, “Roll, Cutlery, Canvas, Outfit, Cooking, 20 Man.”  The implements included are:

• 1 Large Ladel marked “US, LT & S Co, 1942″
• 1 Smaller Ladel with a hanging hook
• 1 Large Serving Spoon with a hanging hook
• 1 large cooking knife marked “U.S., Landers Frary & Clark, 1940″.  (The metal cross guard is loose)

A nice early khaki shelter half with 1941 date.  It is in used condition and I’ve done nothing to clean it, so it’s possible some of the soiling could come out if laundered properly.

This is a very clean WWII front seam, swivel-bale M1 helmet painted in blue gray for Navy.  The rough texture is wonderful.  It comes with a Westinghouse liner that appears to have never had an OD (olive drab) finish.

Manufactured by Boyt in 1942 and prominently marked “Boyt 42″ under the flap.  This khaki USMC M1941 pattern lower pack system is in used condition with one of the metal strap ends missing.  Otherwise, there are no issues.

Original WWII USMC HBT shirt with khaki stitching, and an EGA (Eagle Globe & Anchor) stencil on pocket.  The shirt have been modified in that the metal “13 star” buttons were removed from the cuffs and replaced with period plastic buttons.  I am guessing this was so as not to scratch a vehicle surfaces, etc.  The shirt measures:

• Armpit to Armpit – 24 inches
• Shoulder to Cuff – 23 inches
• Top of Collar to Bottom Hem – 32 inches
• Shoulder to Shoulder – 22 inches

The Tanker Helmet was developed in 1938 was made of rubberized fibre and leather.  The inner suspension was made of soft leather. Ten 3/4 inch holes were added to the fiber shell for ventilation.  Ear pieces and a left flap are attached with leather.  Each ear piece was fitted with a model R-14 earphone.  The ear flaps can be worn up or down.  A throat mic was also used when wearing this helmet.

This helmet was made by Rawlings and is in unissued condition.  Any wear appears to be from storage.  The helmet size is marked 7 1/8.  This example is unique in that it’s fitted with the correct R-14 receivers which are seldom found in unissued helmets.  One of the snaps is damaged (see pic).  Otherwise, there are no issues with this helmet.

Lt Howard W Danks flew as a P-47 fighter pilot with the 8th Army Air Corps and 12th Army Air Corps (66th Fighter Squadron, 57th Fighter Group) before becoming a fighter pilot instructor in Byran, Texas.  On 05/05/1945 Lt Danks was tragically killed when his At-6 aircraft collided with another aircraft during a training exercise.

This uniform group includes:

• Beautiful English-Made Ike Jacket with brown Bakelite buttons, satin lining, and smartly tailored lapels.  Danks penned his name and the date May 1943 on the name tag inside the inner pocket.  The jacket has the following insignia:
  • Felt AAC shoulder sleeve insignia (right shoulder)
  • Embroidered 8th AAC shoulder sleeve insignia (left shoulder)
  • Officer AAC props and “US” pins with WWII smooth-back clutches
  • 2nd Lieutenant pin-back insignia on the epaulets
  • Air Medal ribbon bar with 2 oakleaf clusters
  • Purple Heart ribbon bar
  • 3 inch pin-back aviator wings marked “Amcraft” and “sterling”
  • Presidential Unit Citation
• Officer quality overseas cap with a pin-back 2nd Lieutenant bar
• Pin-back AAC photo ID badge
• Copy of a document verifying eligibility to wear 3 oakleaf clusters on his Air Medal (from G.O. No. 122, Hq. Twelfth Air Force, August 7, 1944)
• Copy of a 6 page document involving a plane crash of a fellow squadron member during a bombing run in Italy on 09/07/1944.  Includes Lt Dank’s eye witness account.
• Copy of a 6 page aircraft accident report where Lt. Danks crashed his plane during flight school.
• Copy of a 38 page report involving Lt. Danks’ fatal collision.  The report includes periods images of the wreckage.

The DRK hewer was developed in 1938. The DRK, “Deutsches Rotes Kreuz” (German Red Cross) was a voluntary civil assistance organization under the control of the NSDAP.  To conform to non-combatant status under the International Geneva Convention in WWII, this dagger / hewer was designed with a squared tip so as not to be considered a weapon when carried in the field.

This WWII Red Cross NCO hewer in in untouched condition.  The nickle-silver plated blade is bright with visible cross graining and minor spotting .  The cast alloy guard and pommel retains its nickle-silver plating.  Both black Bakelite grips are immaculate and the grip screws appear as though they have never been turned.  The black leather washer (where the guard meets the blade) is excellent.  The blade ricasso is marked, “Ges. Gesch.” meaning Gesetzlich Geschützt (protected by law).  The black enamel scabbard has a few natural wear spots on the reverse side and under the leather frog.  The leather frog is supple and marked “jhk 41″.  The set screws on the nickle-silver plated scabbard fittings appear to be unturned.

This Red Cross hewer is right and tight.  It has not been messed with by collector hands!
